BBC SEASON

The BBC season begins the first week of November. The season continues through the first or second week of March.

All games are played on Sundays throughout the day at the Bethlehem Middle School. Each game is supervised by two official referees.

Team shirts are provided to each player.

A guiding principle of the BBC is that ALL players MUST play at least two quarters per game. The emphasis of BBC basketball is to have fun in an atmosphere of courtesy and encouragement.

BBC teams are coached by parent volunteers. Each team must have a coach and at least one assistant coach. Each team is encouraged to have a team parent that can assist with administrative tasks such as telephone calls.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER

The BBC is governed by a board of directors. Members of the board of directors are volunteers. All parents are encouraged to apply to become members of the board.

In addition to the board members, parent volunteers keep the BBC running. The work of parent volunteers is essential to the survival of the BBC. There are many tasks that need to done. Most of them are easy and require very little time. PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO HELP.

WHO CAN JOIN THE BBC?

School-aged children in grades 3-12 who live in the Town of Bethlehem or the Bethlehem Central School District and meet the age requirements of the appropriate grade-level program may participate. The BBC operates 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and High School level programs.

TRAVEL TEAM BASKETBALL

In addition to the in-house recreational teams, the BBC sponsors one travel team for each of the grades 4-8. The travel team plays in the Capital District Youth Basketball League (CDYBL).

Games are scheduled almost every week from early November through mid-March. Most games are played on Saturday.

Up to half of the games are on the road at other Capital District schools within a 45 minute radius of Bethlehem.

Approximately 12 players are selected by tryouts for each team.

Travel basketball is IN ADDITION to the recreational league NOT in place of it. A travel team player must be on a BBC recreational team.

Practices for travel basketball begin in early October.

A fee in addition to the BBC registration fee is required for each travel team player.
